Day 01

Arrival in Ecuador – Quito (2856m)

Flight to Ecuador, welcome from your guide and transfer to the hotel (about 1 hour). Arrive in the evening in Quito, the capital (9,350 ft). Welcome drink. Night in the historic centre in Quito.


Day 02

Quito – Volcano Pinchincha or Museum

In the morning visit to Quito’s historic centre, one of the best-preserved in Latin America and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Then a visit of the archaeology or reptile museum OR trip up Pichincha Volcano (13,400 ft) in a cable car, with panoramic views of Quito and the Andean Cordillera at the top. Typical lunch optional. Night in the same hotel in Quito.


Day 03

Quito – Equator Line – Mindo

Transfer to the “Middle of the World” ”, in the north of Quito, where the fictitious Equator line lies and marks the 00’00 latitude established in XVIII century thanks to the famous 1st French Geodesic Mission. Visit the Equatorial Monument and optional visit to the Intiñan Ethno-Scientific Museum. Then continue on to Mindo, located in the cloud forest, famous for its birds, orchids, butterflies, waterfalls. Perfect spot for doing extreme sports, nature activities, adventures, e.g: canopy, canyoning, riding horses, mountain biking, tubing, visiting a butterfly farm, a chocolate factory, a botanic garden OR hike to discover the waterfalls and observe the birds. Dinner and night in an ecolodge in the forest near a small river.


Day 04

Cloud Forest of Mindo

Continuation of the discovery of the region and the activities named above. Night in the Eco Chalet. Optional tour of the heart of the forest. (maximum 4 persons, dinner included)


Day 05

Mindo – Quito

Last activity in the morning then return to Quito. On the way optional visit of a tropical bird trainer OR observation of the hummingbirds. Night in the hotel.

OPTIONAL INSTEAD (OR IN ADDITION) TO THE REGION OF MINDO: Stay in the AMAZON. 3 to 4 day stay in Amazon in the secondary forest of the region Tena (with optional rafting and/or bath in the thermal hot springs of Papallacta) OR in the famous park Cuyabeno in the primary forest (richer in fauna and birds than Tena) Detailed programs below.


Day 06

Quito – Roses and/or Condors – Otavalo

Drive to the beautiful Andean region of Otavalo, famous for its volcanoes, lakes, and indigenous culture. On the way visit a rose plantation (optional) OR stop at San Pablo Lake, at the foot of Imbabura Volcano. Visit to the Indigenous market in Otavalo, famous for its large variety of textiles and handicrafts. Optional presentation in the park of the condors. Hike OR optional boat tour around the lake Cuicocha, crater of the volcano Cotocachi. Transfer to an Indigenous community. Dinner and night in an Indigenous community OR optional night in a charming historic hacienda 4*.


Day 07

Otavalo – Train: Ibarra to Salinas – Quito

Transfer to the small station of Ibarra. Short travel on board of the train of the Liberty crossing the popular areas of Ibarra, along the Cordillera of the volcano Cayambe (3rd highest peak of the country) to the subtropical Chota valley and up to the Afro-Ecuadorian village of Salinas. Welcoming by the afros offering a local snack, presentation of their handicrafts, dance, and music. Return to Quito. Dinner, optional but recommended, in a panoramic restaurant with view over Quito. Night in a hotel.


Day 08

Quito – Volcano Antisana – Baños

Excursion and walk to the national reserve of the volcano Antisana and optional hike around the lake La Mica. Observation of birds and the enormous Antisana. Then drive along the Avenue of Volcanoes. Continuation to the attractive town of Baños, famous for its hot springs and its location at the base of Tungurahua Volcano. Optional: Thermal baths and spa treatments. Night in a small hotel in Baños.


Day 09

Baños – Volcano Chimborazo

Tour of Baños. Then, optional mountain biking to the hamlet Rio Verde OR travel by car. On the way, cross the river Pastaza in tarbaitas. Then visit of the impressive waterfall Pailon Del Diablo. Then, drive to the city of Riobamba, located at the foot of the highest volcano of Ecuador: Chimborazo (20,702 ft). Optional: Lunch in a community restaurant specializing in llamas. Visit of the small local museum on llamas and their culture guided by a community member. Night in Riobamba at an extraordinary hotel on the foot of the volcano. Dinner by a fireplace.


Day 10

Chimborazo – Andes Train – Guayaquil

Optional (instead of the Train de la Libertad) Transfer to Alausi train station and take the famous train Devil’s Nose up to Sibambe where the indigenous community welcomes you with a coffee and snack. With the train back to Alausi. Or optional horse riding or walk to the community of Nisag along a unique mountain landscape. Optional lunch with the residents. Then travel to the Littorale region, continue onto the economic and harbour capital of Ecuador: Guayaquil. Panoramic tour of the city then visit the famous “Malecon 2000” until the quarter “Las Peñas”. And/or, night tour and cocktail on a boat on the river Guayas. “Guayaquileño” dinner optional. Night in a hotel.


Day 11

Guayaquil – Salinas – Puerto Lopez

“Ruta del Sol” along the Pacific Coast. Optional stop at the beach and lunch in the city of Salinas. Then continue along the ocean to the national park of Machalilla in Puerto Lopez. Stay in a hotel with pool, located near the ocean. Dinner and Night.


Day 12

Machalilla National Park – Puerto Lopez

Day of rest at the beach of Puerto Lopez and/or beach “Los Frailes”, considered the most beautiful beach in Ecuador. Optional bike tour of the region or visit the community Aguas Blancas; an archaeological site with therapeutical mud baths. Night in the hotel.


Day 13

Puerto Lopez – Island “La Plata” – Montañita

Excursion day in boat and by foot to the island “La Plata”, a lost island of Galapagos with a similar ecosystem and home to certain species of animals also found in the Galapagos. During the navigation, possible observation of whales (between June and November). Breakfast-Picnic. After trip to the island, optional swimming and snorkeling from boat. Return to Puerto Lopez and travel to the bohemian village of surfers: Montañita. Goodbye cocktail. Night in a hotel next to the ocean.


Day 14

Montañita – Guayaquil – Flight back

Observation of surfers and last swim on the beautiful beach of Montañita or at a nearby beach called Olon. Return to Guayaquil. Transfer to the airport and flight back to your country.

Optional: night in hotel and next day flight to the amazing Galapagos Islands for an Island Tour  (5days)  (details in our section “Galapagos”)
