Day 01

Arrival in Ecuador – Quito ( 9,350 ft )

Arrival in Quito, in the Andes, the capital of Ecuador. Reception at the airport then transfer to the hotel located in Quito’ historic center. Welcome drink and night.
Day 02

Quito – Equator Line – Otavalo

Morning dedicated to the city tour of Quito, surrounded by volcanoes and dominated by Pichincha volcano (15,750 ft). The town was founded by the Inca civilization and developed by the Spanish colonizers. Its historic center is a real architectural jewel, dating of XVIth and XIXth century and classified Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco with this places, churches and colonial convents.

Then transfer to “The Middle of the World”, in the North of Quito, where the fictitious Equator line goes and marks this altitude 00’00 established in XVIII century thanks to the famous 1st French Geodesic Mission. Visit of the Equator monument and its neo-colonial village. On option, visit of the Ethno-Scientific Inti Ñan museum, where you will prove yourself the latitude0.

Then, drive to the beautiful Andean region of Otavalo. Stop for a panoramic view at San Pablo Lake, dominated by the majestic Imbabura. Night at a charming hacienda or dinner and night in an Indigenous community, at a family home.

Day 03

Otavalo – Quito

Optional, (instead of the Devil‘s Nose train), travel to Ibarra station and short trip on board the Train of Liberty up to the Afro village of Salinas. In the morning, possible visit of the traditional Otavalo cattle market (only on Saturdays) or tour of  the community, meeting with its craftsmen and farmers.

Then visit the famous Indigenous market of Otavalo, one of the most appreciated and colorful of Latin America, where the proud “Otavaleños” natives sell their handicrafts, textiles, and weavings.

Then, optional tour of Peguche, the musician and weaver village, or Cotacachi, leather village and panoramic view of the beautiful Cuicocha Lake and optional walk. Drive back to Quito and night in the same hotel.

Day 04

Quito – Baños

Drive along the Avenue of Volcanoes. Depending on the day and the weather, possible visit to an Indigenous market in Cotopaxi volcano region (Pujili or Saquisili or Zumbagua (Wednesday, Sunday, Thursday or Saturday). Continue on to the attractive town of Baños, famous for its hot springs. Walking tour in the animated city. Optional thermal bath (USD 5). Night in a small charming hotel.
Day 05

Baños – Riobamba or Chimborazo

Optional, mountain biking excursion (USD 30) or transfer to the Rio Verde hamlet, then walk to the impressive “Pailon del Diablo” waterfall. Then drive to the city of Riobamba, located at the foot of the highest volcano of Ecuador: Chimborazo (20,702 ft). Possible panoramic city tour or continue on to the volcano region. Night in Riobamba at the hotel or in a Puruhae community (with dinner) or also an optiona stay in a charming Mountain Inn with a sensational panorama of Chimborazo with dinner.
Day 06

Riobamba – Train of the Andes  –  Ingapirca – Cuenca

Early transfer to the Alausi train station and ride the well-known Train of the Andes (less than 2 hours) through the famous Devil’s Nose with spectacular views of landscapes up to the Sibambe terminal. Welcome by local Indigenous people with a typical snack. Return to Alausi. Then drive to the beautiful city of Cuenca. On the way, stop in Ingapirca, the most important religious and political temple left by the Incas and pre-Colombian culture. Visit of the ruins and its small museum. Arrival at Cuenca. Night in a charming hotel.
Day 07

Cuenca – Littoral : Guayaquil

 Visit of the lovely city of Cuenca, also classified by World Cultural Heritage, appreciated for its paved streets, graceful balconies, the historic churches, squares, convents, typical markets.. and its romantic river of Tomebamba. Visit of a “Panama” hats factory. Drive towards the coast, through magnificent Andean and tropical landscapes (rice fields, palm groves, and bananas plantations). Arrival in the economic capital and biggest harbor of the country: Guayaquil. Walk through the panoramic city tour by night, following the famous “Malecon 2000” up to Las Penas old district.  Night at the hotel.


Optional, one more night in Cuenca to visit the valley of Gualaceo or a museum about the Aboriginal Cultures and/or excursion in Cajas lakes park. Or Flight back to your country this night.

Day 08

Guayaquil – Flight back home

Transfer to the airport and flight back home. Optional, an Extension of Journey  in  the Pacific Coast, Amazon, or the Galapagos Islands
